  • Modulation Institute (Modi) is your go-to community for Identity-Affirming Voice Training. Whether you're exploring vocal feminization, masculinization, or simply want more control and confidence in how you sound, we are here to help.

  • The logo is derived from the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA, not the beer), which is essentially a phonetic alphabet made up of symbols to help us phonetically transcribe and pronounce words in almost any language. The IPA in our logo is the phonetic transcription of the word “Love” in English. Using IPA to develop proper pronunciation of an unfamiliar language is a common practice in Operatic singing.

    After years of transcribing Operatic repertoire in multiple languages, our Founder always felt /lʌv/ looked very cool and eventually designed a tattoo (the now logo) to mark coming out within the LGBTQIA+ community. Love and inclusivity are what motivated Modulation Institute, so that is what we decided to brand with.

  • No. Speech-Language Pathologists typically work with speech disorders and voice modulation is not a speech disorder.

  • Starting mid-October 2025 we will begin offering a limited number of in-person lessons in the heart of Grand Rapids, MI. Contact us to be put on our waitlist!

  • Most of our clients see significant progress within 2 months or 8 sessions. After 8 sessions we work to taper off the client to only two lessons a month, down to once a month, with the intention of having ocassional checkups after 6 months.

  • All sessions are $85 for a 45-minute session.

  • All billing is done through Acuity and Stripe. You will have the ability to book individual lessons or gift certificates. If you have credits from a GC, or canceled lesson, that will be applied to your next lesson.

  • No, we are unable to take insurance at this time.

  • We do! Please email yourfriends@modulation.institute to be put on a waitlist. We will schedule one once we have enough interest!

  • Unfortunately, due to the disgusting laws that are being passed throughout different states in the US and throughout the world, we require clients to be 16 + and a consent form from a guardian for those who are 18 and under.

  • Yes! If you feel any of our services would benefit you and you do not identify as Trans or Non-Binary and/or are not a member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, you are still welcome!
